CCA FAIR 2018

SSGT Jamie & SSGT Celestine addressing secondary one students about NPCC during cca fair 2018

TOTAL DEFENCE (SILVER)

For total defence, we went to a museum and we learnt a lot of things. Like the different types of animal species. And some animal and plants do work together to protect each other. And I think this is an example of social defence as we need to help each other should there be an attack in our country. It's important for us to stay united as a country. From this I learn that we are stronger as a country.

UNIT CAMP 2017

Unit camp was quite interesting as not only did i get the chance to bound with my own squad, but also with the sec 2 and 3’s, and instead of having a comfortable camp-out, there were drills and we were given roles that required responsibility and swiftness which included taking care of a stone and waking up early. So, i think that from this camp, i have learnt hands on activities and this is really like experiential learning where we learn life skills, and it’s memorable and meaningful!

Unit camp is mostly focused on the whole NPCC unit (sec 1s, 2s and 3s) coming together learning survival skills and working in teams, building better teamwork among us.
One thing that I really enjoy the most is when we all came together at night to do our reflections/debrief together with our Cadet Leaders and teachers in charge. It made me realised what we can doing improving our CCA, among our batch and even individually to develop us into a more disciplined person.
Overall, from this activity I learned that no matter what happens we should always take care of everybody’s well-being even if it’s a fire evacuation drill in the middle of the night. We should always work together in pairs to ensure each other’s safety.

CSSP 2017

The CSSP VIA was about spreading the importance of SGSecure to the community, in this case, our school. The secondary 2 cadets presented powerpoint slides on RUN, HIDE and TELL to the school during assembly, set up a games booth during recess, asking questions on SGSecure, and made a video, on what to do during a terrorist attack to present to the school, through the TV Messaging System. I enjoyed making the powerpoint slides with my groupmates. We worked together as a team and were disciplined enough to complete the slides in a day. We all collaborated ideas and made sure we handed up quality work. From this activity, I learnt that Singapore is not always going to be safe as it is not a matter of if but when terrorists attack. We got to be ready and act accordingly to the situation for the safety of ourselves and the people around us.

DRILLS COMPETITION 2017

Drills competition is a competition which is organised for all NPCC units. It aims to assess the cadet’s proficiency in drills. All of the  different units will have to participate for the preliminary round in order for the judges to select the top 10 schools for the final round.
What I enjoyed the most about this activity were the countless trainings. These intense and tough trainings were very worth it even though it was just for few minutes of the drill sequence but because of these tough trainings, we were able to execute well. I enjoyed spending time and training together with the cadets, making our bond stronger which improves on our teamwork.
After going through these trainings, I’ve learnt to pick up many good values, such as, teamwork, discipline, responsibility, punctuality and so on. One thing that is kept being emphasise is teamwork. I’ve learnt that everyone has a part to play during drills as participating individually does not lead to success. Communicating is another thing that we must do during drills, which is part of teamwork.

In summary, those few minutes of showing the judges our drill sequences, had summed up and reflected our effort that we had put in during training. This shows how we have grown together as a unit.

POLICE YOUTH AMBASSADORS

We had to work in groups to do up a poster on money muling as part of our PYA project and then go to Great World City to raise awareness on money muling to the community there. One thing i enjoyed most is going around to give out brochure to people with my group mates and being able to teach the community about this scam. I’ve learnt more about this money muling scam and also gained confidence in speaking to the public

ADVENTURE TRAINING CAMP 2017

During ATC , I had to  go through the  Water  Confidence Jump at Pulau Ubin. Even though the  wooden plank was only a few feets high up , I was  scared  to jump into the water. My fear heightened after my group’s  CI said that there were jellyfishes in the water and also that one cadet got stung by the jellyfish before. All my other cadets were very excited to  participate, while I was  very scared and was thinking about all the negative possibilities that could happen. The coach told me shout out my name and school , after doing so I calmed myself down by chanting ‘I can do it’ .After I jumped into the water i felt like drowning , luckily there was a lifeguard to guide my way to the ladder that connects to the land. After the activity I realised that I did not have to be paranoid about  the jellyfishes. My favourite part was when I climbed up the stairs. I learnt that in my life , there will be one person to guide my way through, like the lifeguard. I also learnt that the problems  that are faced are just like the jellyfishes, they exist but would not harm me if I am confident.

 SURVIVAL TRAINING CAMP

STC was a very fun and engaging camp. I found a lot of new friends and got to know my squadmates better.I hurt myself when trying the flying fox but it did not affect the fun I had during the campfire and the rest of the day. We had to cook for ourselves 3 meals everyday and the only thing we usually got was Maggi noodles but the cooking and sharing process was very fun.

FLAG DAY VIA (KIDNEY DIALYSIS FOUNDATION)

The activity is about asking people in Bishan to donate some money to the kidney dialysis foundation  people there.
I enjoyed smiling at people asking for donations and giving them stickers with my buddy!

I have learn to be more calm because I got too excited and I forgot that I asked the same person for donation.

TOTAL DEFENCE (BRONZE)

This activity is about learning the five pillars of Total Defense and its significance. We were taught the different aspects and then asked to create a machine for a show-and-tell which parts can be used to represent the five pillars of total defense. From this activity, I have learnt many ways that all of us can play a part in the five pillars of Total Defense. For example, we can do our part in building strong relationships in the community and work and live harmoniously.

SEC 3 LEADERS' CAMP 2017

Sec 3 camp was a camp that created a strong bond, instilled discipline and have potential leadership in cadets like us as we were the ones taking over the cca. The camp was fun and tough at the same time beacuse it showcases the different elements we need in order to be a role model to our juniors. We learnt how to care for one another through the toughest activites

REVOLVER SHOOTING COMPETITION 2017

Right before the competition, we had our .22 shoot to promote to sergeant. Our squad did not do very well for marksman, and I was worried that we would not do well for our competition. Despite all the uncertainty, we still encouraged each other to do our best and do the school proud. The times when we cheered each other on and comforted one another were meaningful, but I enjoyed the actual shooting the most as it was a one-of-a-kind experience. Even though we did not win, we still managed to gain a valuable learning experience through this competition. A shooting competition is not a competition that anyone can take part in. I really appreciated the fact that I had the opportunity to attend such an interesting competition. I also learnt new things about my squadmates, and certain values that one should have in order to overcome our adversities.

HARMONY CAMP 2017

Harmony camp was a camp that lasted two days and one night and was held at the NACLI campsite. Around one to two people from each school were sent to attend this camp. The objective of the camp was to enforce teamwork and bonding among peers. It required many of us to come out of our comfort zones and interact with others. Everyone were motivated to voice out our ideas and to participate in the activities arranged. The activity I enjoyed most was the first aid course and the trip to different places around Singapore to learn about different cultures. Through the camp, I learnt how to voice out my opinions and interact with people that I just met. I also learnt to have patience when a team member made a mistake.

CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (CSI) 2017

CSI stands for Crime Scene Investigation. We went to HTA for this programme. A senior police officer who is very experienced in this field gave us a talk and showed us images of real crime scenes, which is very interesting. We also managed to take a look at real blood and fingerprint samples, and learnt how to analyze a crime scene, based on such evidences. I really enjoyed the scene investigation where we got to witness a true crime scene, where a woman was killed by her bedside.

FLAG DAY VIA (XIN YUAN)

Upon reaching the centre we collected the money tin and stickers. After that we had spilt ourselves up into grps and my grp went to toa payoh central to collect donations from ppl. The duration of the VIA was 4 hours and it was indeed a long and tiring one. There were many generous ppl donating money after explaining to them the purpose of us collecting funds. Through this VIA i have learnt to be patient and determined. I have also learnt teamwork and communication through the VIA as everyone in my grp was tired and we had to motivate one another to press on and continue. This VIA was certainly a meaningful experience and an eye-opening one.

I enjoyed having lunch with my new friends i met and dinner with my squadmates before going home. I learnt new drills like baton drills and i also improved my foot drills and i now know better the importance of having the sense of urgency.

FANCY DRILLS ( CCA FAIR )

Fancy drills is a display of strength in weapon style for very important ceremonies, which shows the unity of the unit. During Fancy Drills training,  we were taught certain steps to perform with the rifle and we had to practise until we were close to perfection. During CCA Fair, we performed our drills for the secondary ones in order to display our skills and show what we are being taught in NPCC. I enjoyed the time we spent training together as a unit as we helped and bonded with each other along the way. From this activity, I have learnt discipline, timing, teamwork, coordination and have gained confidence.

AREA GAMES DAY 2017 (26 AUGUST 2017)

Area Games Day was an amazing experience. We had the privilege of hosting which brought on a lot more responsibility as not only did we have to look out for our own teammates but we also had to look out for the other cadets to ensure that they are not lost. It created new bonds within our own team and we learned how to cooperate and fund a common ground. It was overall a pleasant experience and a memorable event

This year AGD was located in our school(SMSS), we were very proud since it is the first time and there was a lot of things that i have learnt, the whole unit also had to do punishments because of some of the cadets not respecting their seniors/juniors, Two things i have learnt along this journey is to be patient and to be more confident:)
